Step1ne handles the process confidentially throughout.

Job description

Accommodation and property operations management

  • Manage operations of accommodation and villa facilities in Hakuba
  • Schedule and deploy on-site staff

Vendor and facility management

  • Managing cleaning, maintenance, and other vendors (scheduling, price negotiation, confirming scope of work)

Operations management and system building

  • Support operating cost management and income/expense reporting
  • Help build future operating workflows and management systems

Requirements

Required
  • Hands-on experience in hotel, villa, inn or property operations, and able to clearly describe the type and scale of facilities you handled and the scope of your responsibilities
  • Experience managing and scheduling on-site staff, with concrete examples of handling staff shortages, recruiting and training
  • Japanese sufficient for everyday work communication and English sufficient for work conversations (the final interview is conducted in English)
  • Willing to live and work long-term in Hakuba, Nagano, Japan, and able to accept longer hours and holiday work during the peak snow season
  • Experience in, or willingness to, build operating processes and systems from scratch, and able to adapt to an early-stage new business with no precedent to follow
Preferred qualifications
  • Management experience at an upscale hotel chain
  • Able to communicate in Chinese
  • Love winter sports (skiing, snowboarding, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Japanese real estate regulations or the Hotel Business Act
  • Hands-on experience in vendor contracting and price negotiation
  • Experience handling periodic inspections under the Building Standards Act and Fire Service Act
  • Experience preparing operating budgets and income/expense reports
  • Experience reporting directly to property owners

You'll work directly with world-class owners and high-end guests and build long-term relationships of trust, a unique chance to raise your profile and grow your network.

JPY 5,000,000–8,500,000 per year, assessed individually on experience

FAQ

Is this position handled confidentially? Could my résumé end up with my current employer?+

All openings are handled confidentially. We will never send your resume to a company without your consent, nor let your current employer know you are looking.

What does the interview process look like?+

There are four stages: a first-round interview with our AI, a confidential conversation with a consultant, an interview with members of the Japan team, and a final interview in English with the manager. If you are already in Japan, the online interview will in principle be followed by an in-person interview; if you are overseas, the whole process can be done online first.

Is spoken English really a hard requirement?+

Yes. The final interview is a work conversation conducted in English to verify your level. This is a requirement for the role and cannot be replaced by a written self-assessment.

Can this position be done remotely?+

No. This is an on-site job that requires being based long-term in Hakuba, Nagano; it is not a remote position.

Will the company help with the work visa?+

Yes. If you need a work visa, the company can help with the process, and social insurance is provided as regular employment in Japan.

How are leave, contract length and probation arranged?+

This will be explained individually during the interview based on your situation.

What does this company do? Can you tell me which company it is?+

Your consultant will explain this once they take over. At this stage, let's focus on whether your experience is a good fit for this role.
